Blood sugars can be affected by the length/amount of sleep. How long do you sleep for and how well? This is a multiple choice poll.
I have it on good authority that my T2 was 'brought on' and is directly linked to my Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (managed with a CPAP machine since 2011), Lumber Spinal Stenosis with osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia - which often means I suffer from extended periods of Insomnia broken by compelled periods, days or weeks of fretful, unrefreshing sleep 'intermittently urgent' sleep meaning I tend to doze off anywhere and everywhere at the drop of a hat! Yes. my sugars are definitely affected by my sleep.
Because I have restless legs syndrome I feel it might be a side effect of prediabetes which I have. My legs are dry and itchy which also contributes to being unable to sleep properly.
Hi
I get an hour or less per night due to pain, it's awful. How are you feeling tonight? Lynne xxxx
It shouldn't be ... bought over the counter in South Africa
Like a log !
In the UK if you sleep like a log, its well & like a log. The uk has some odd sayings.
I have done a small job today & feel better for it. Day off tomorrow. I should not have said that ?
I am T2 just started Slow release metformin, blood sugars average 7.4 to 8 in the mornings for years my sleep has been poor I think the higher my blood sugar the worse it is, I have trouble getting to sleep often for hours but I am very tired, I get restless tossing about, fisting my fingers banging my legs, sometimes cannot get still even in sleep until I go into deep sleep. If I have eaten late it seems to be worse
Have you talked with your doctor about the sleep/leg issues?
Yes he just asked if I wanted sleeping pills which I declined the diabetic nurse had no heard of diabetes causing sleep issues
If blood sugars are higher during the night, sometimes, I have trouble with sleeping through the night. What have your blood sugars been recently? Did you have a bedtime snack?
I do. When I can’t get to sleep I get a snack so I will stop that if I could sleep i would not snack if I could get to sleep I would not do so. I have a rare glass of wine and no desserts
How much wine do you have (if you have it )? Sometimes, wine can keep a person awake.
One glass dry white wine when I am out with friends but mostly none - I feel rather boring these days 😳 I am careful with foods and only small portions
I don’t drink anything that has alcohol in it since I have to take anticonvulsants during the day and before bedtime at night with my snack.
Sorry missed your question about my blood sugar levels first thing in the morning they vary between 6.8 and 8.2 mostly in the 7’s. I take 500 mg of slow release metformin in the morning and 2x500 mg around 6 pm
No I am away from home at the moment I will be back home mid December and will probably see the diabetic nurse for a 3 month blood test hb?1c. (I forget the exact name/number)
I will cease evening snacks and see if that helps. Thank you for your support.
I will. I am not overweight, I am very active and fit for my age 68
My father was an undiagnosed diabetic for years and he lost his sight
So I assume it is genetic with me🥴
