I'm not doing too badly with my portion sizes, the problem I have is with 'snacking or comfort eating'.
Even when I ban all unhealthy snacks from the house, I've discovered that I'm so creative, I can make a delicious and relatively unhealthy snack out of virtually every food item known to man!
10 points for creativity and originality, nil point for greed.
I am a type 1 diabetic with other health issues, if I manage to eat that is good enough. I am on the lower side of a healthy weight range.
I'm not sure what this means. I've never had advice on portion sizes. As type 1 on insulin, purely for diabetic control portion size doesn't matter for me provided I match the CHO with an appropriate dose of insulin. Of course, same as everyone, diabetic or otherwise, I try to eat a sensible amount with a sensible balance of food types to avoid putting on weight - indeed, I lost weight by eating a little less. But that's far more than portion sizes - it's restricting food with high calories, filling with food with low calories, taking care with snacking and, basically, being sensible.
My opinion if you eat the right food cutting out fat and sugar(carbs) , you can eat as much as you like until your full and dont count calories you will lose or maintain your weight
If you are eating till you are full (regardless of whether you're lowering your carbs and/or fat, then you may find yourself not losing weight and probably putting it on! Portion control is very important, I follow the Freedom Eating principles in the book Till The Fat Lady Slims by Debbie Flint. I only eat when I'm hungry at level 6 on the scale 1-10, before that I have a drink of water because I may be dehydrated. After that I stick to proper portion sizes (most of the time - of course I'm only human and love a treat!). I have cut back on carbs and fat (I'm T2 on metformin) and am slowly getting myself fit. If you have a full plate and feel the need to eat it all you will get very full and the idea is that you reach the satisfied stage when you can put your knife and fork down and in my case I put push the plate away (if I'm out I put my napkin over it). This method is helping me get into a better place with my food. Eat less, move more
