I read this book in June. I had previously read Catherine Grays - The unexpected joy of being sober. Both are good books we all should read, along with Alcohol lied to me by Craig Beck. Now on my second month sober and no wash to ever drink again. Just haven’t lost any weight yet but it should happen.
When I hit my bottom with alcoholism, I was willing to do anything to get sober and stay sober. Even facing the chance that I might gain weight initially, which I did. I could always shed the extra poundage, but I could never regain the lost time or completely make right the damage I would cause to myself or others if I kept drinking. Instead of empty bottles of alcohol I had in my trash bins, there were empty cartons of ice cream. So much easier to dispose of than bottles of embarrassing alcohol. I gave my body the time to transition from its habit of relying on the sugars from alcohol for energy, to learning to break down nutrients from a healthier diet to use. It’s a gradual process, but so worth it.
I have noticed my ice cream 🍦 consumption has gone up! When I gave up smoking I put on lots of weight but I gave up smoking. I can do the same with alcohol.Everything is one step at a time. Thanks for the reply - it’s true , we’re told all these things alcohol will do to improve us. Oh... how wrong they are.
Congratulations to you for giving up smoking. I’m finding it much harder to give up smoking than alcohol. I’ve had others agree with me, but I’ve talked to others who have given up both at the same time. I think it’s an individual ability.
I’m familiar with the concept of alcohol lying to you. It’s in the Big Book of AA which was written in the early thirties. At first it lies and tells you that it’s your best friend. That it can make you smarter, happier, taller, more like able, prettier. That all is right with the world. That it will never harm you. And then it turns on you. You discover it had been lying to you all this time. You’re not smarter (even less so by now). It has ravaged your body so that you are almost unrecognizable. Your family and friends have abandoned you. You have no job or home. You’re physically and mentally ill. Friend? True friends don’t lie to you. ❤️🏄♀️
Hi Sinatra how are you my drinking is on off still builds up when having problems usually and then I feel.guilty and don't have anything for night or 2 I'm thinking of going to AA again 🤗😻
I’ll put it this way, Mandy. It would be a step forward, not backwards to give AA another chance. Whenever you decide to do so, you know their doors are always open to you with welcoming arms. ❤️🏄♀️
Thanks I like reading I'll get them 🤗
