Hello Is shivering during diaylisis normal? She's also having a iv iron at the same time.
Also my mams blood sugars are sky high I'd ask someone at the diayalsis unit but their is literally never someone to speak to understandably they are busy but would be nice to have someone to speak to about it at the unit!

Yes the shivering is unfortunately very normal. Part of the process of dialysis is having the blood taken outside the body to be filtered as you're probably aware. The risk of blood clots increases as temperature rises, and if blood clots inside the machine it will stop the filtering and returning process so it doesn't force a clot inside your mum (clots are deadly). The presence of a clot complicates a lot of things--for example your mum needs that blood inside her body and if the clots in the machine stop it from being able to pump it back in you've got a problem. To mitigate this you'll find that, among other things, the temperature of the blood is lowered slightly by the machine and your mum will feel a bit shivery.
My dialysis unit used to have a blanket bin and I'd personally want 2 or 3 of those blue hospital blankets to get me through, I had people in my unit who'd bring in duvets from home though so ymmv.
As for blood sugars, I'm not familiar but when your mum is being "put on" mention it to the nurse who's doing it. Worst case scenario they'll have a sister come over to speak to you when they've got a chance. Or if your mum has a diabetic team give them a call-they are the experts after all.
Don't give iron inj directly.Iron inj 100mg should be administered in 100 ml of normal saline over 30 minutes and increase the temp of Dialysate fluid to 37.5 degree celsius
If she has no shivering pre dialysis, then shivers during treatment and it stops after treatment it may be a simple adjustment to machine temperature will fix this. Many times this is high indication of sepsis and needs addressed immediately. Blessings
Turns out she does have sepsis and being treated in hospital diaylisis nurse took blood during the diaylisis but still sent her home and a few hours later she was unresponsive and we dialed 999 you'd think the nurse would of knew the signs! As my dad and myself are newbies we were told it was common side effects.
