I am starting home PD on Nov 9th. Training on the twin bag method for now (APD) because the drain pain from my flushing has been bad. I hope to use the home choice pro cycler from baxter at some point, maybe once my body gets used to the drain pain, but there’s a chance I will stay on APD and may never use the cycler. I had my catheter surgery placement on September 9 and the dry pain has been hard to get used to, but it’s getting easier. I ordered 2 PD belts from Etsy, I hope they are good....I wish the clinic would provide belts but they don’t. I live in Canada so I don’t get a choice on which cycler to choose, the clinic uses only the home choice pro right now. Hopefully Amia will become available as I hear that one is a better machine.
I am at 8% function, 48 yo, 145 lbs, no other major health issues. I still have energy, and I am still eating everything I want to eat, (90% vegetarian- no dairy), my bloodwork has been good and I am not appearing to retain too much fluid yet.
I’m interested in knowing how people have felt when they first started dialysis and if it made them feel a little bit worse before they felt better or if overall they felt better.
I still have mostly good days with energy but I am worried that dialysis is going to make me feel like crap for awhile, which is fine as long as it gets better. I’m really interested to know if anyone out there still is comfortable walking/exercising/yoga with fluid in their belly. I really appreciate any advice or how anyone’s experience has been for them when first starting home PD. ❤️
