PD Cramping

Hey again,

So I’ve started my PD, at home over night. For the last week, maybe week and a half, I’ve been having severe cramping during the initial drain and the final drain. I know my nurse told me it could happen, but it’s really painful. I am not constipated and I try to have a bowel movement everyday because I know it can affect treatment. Is this severe cramping normal?

Hi there, good ole drain pain. It can be quite debilitating. I suffer with it as well, usually during the first and last drain. I find getting up and moving around can help, but not always. You should speak to your Renal team about it and see if they can change the settings on your machine to help. They adjusted mine and it has help a bit. Some days are better then others.

I’m probably not being particularly helpful, but wanted to let you know your not alone. Good luck. x

Thank you! That did help. Just wanted to be sure that is something to expect.

You haven’t posted for several days; how is the drain pain going at this point? Has your dialysis team been able to get this resolved?

It’s been on and off. Sometime it’s bad and other times I don’t feel a thing. I will mention it at my next appt
