Haven't found a donor for my lovely man yet but his kidney function has dropped to 9% so dialysis it is. We are at the hospital today to have a catheter fitted. All a bit too real now 😭

It's scary I know, had catheter fitted two years ago and remember how worried I felt, seemed like the end of the world but and it a big but, your husband will feel better once dialysis is established, soon become a routine, just give it time and do as the PD nurses tell you. Good luck x

My husband had his done in March and is just coming up to two months on dialysis. The worst bit was worrying about it beforehand and healing up from the catheter which he found very sore at times. All good now though and he is looking and feeling much better. We have got used to the routine and going to bed a bit earlier than we used to.

Sorry to hear that. I am at 18% Kidney function. I hope everything went well at the hospital. Please stay in touch on this forum as everyone is very supportive and knowledgeable.

Dialysis is not the end of the world, it's a change. Stay positive, any concerns talk about them, keep you chin up and I hope it all goes well.

My kidneys failed 1990, and I'm still here.

Thank you for your kind comments and support. Catheter fitted, going to have dressings changed tomorrow and they plan to run another bag through. He found the first one very sore but I suppose that is understandable as it is a new sensation and the body is saying 'what's going on here then???'

He used to love a bath in the evening and is really missing that

I think the soak in the bath is probably the thing I missed the most. However I have recently moved to Haemo after 6 years on APD because of recurrent bouts of peritonitus.

I am now exporing home Haemo using th NxStage machine which can be used over night and taken on holiday.

Hi Annie

I know how you feel, its the unknown that is the worse but after joining this site a few weeks ago i have had such great advise. I am sure your husband will feel better on dialysis.

I am currently in hospital due to 20lb weight gain of fluid. It is on my lungs too which i need draining. I may be facing emergency dialysis so its happening very quickly.

I hope all goes well and that your husbamd starts to feel better
