Hello love61 ... I hope you are well today. I was very reluctant to see a counsellor many years ago. I think my fear came from the stigma that if you see a counsellor you are some how weak. This view is so incorrect and very unhelpful. It takes a lot of courage to go to a counsellor and once you are there they can really help you. You have to think what is it that is stopping you from going? Are you happy with they ways things are for you? If not then only you can change it ... if counselling is what you need then be brave and take the first step to on your new journey. I wish you all the best.

Hiya. Dialysis is a life changing process and as such seems a very daunting step to take but the best way to reduce your fear is to speak to other dialysis patients.

People on dialysis can explain in everyday terms what life on dialysis is really like and how they continue to live their lives. Some people struggle with the dialysis lifestyle while others continue to live virtually normal lives. As far as relationships go, every one is different and depends on the individuals involved.

Hi

Try and join some social groups, gentle exercise groups (like Chi Kung) or art classes.. You'll be surprised that there may be others in a similar situation.

Keep up with the counselling it does help..

Anxiety, feeling isolated, or depressed can be common with CDK but hang in there.

Try and get out of the house every day, even if its just for a short walk.

Also see if your hospital/unit has peer support..

Quite often KPA's have socials..

I'm trying to get something up in London as a monthly event.. Slow going, I've had a lot of support from a group called Outsiders outsiders.org.uk

Their not just for kidney patients but I've found them supportive and refreshing.

Information!!

Do all hospitals have a Holiday coordinator, I am trying to find out why NWPark does not have one, and would be interested.

Hi

Trusts usually have a designated member of staff at the main units who deal with holidays or dialysis away from base. Why it isn't the case in some hospitals I don't know.

Equally hospitals should have a counsellor and renal social worker, but many do not. Cost is usually given s the excuse for not having that member of the care team.

You could try contacting Freedom if there is a particular place you wish to travel.
