Hi robson38,

I had my left kidney removed a few years ago , it was something that needed to be done as it wasn't working, so it was for the better. You should maybe try to look at it that way ? Don't be worrying too much about the op , recovery time differs depending on each person so stay positive and u wil b back on your feet before you know it

I quite agree any surgical procedure is very scary especially your first one. I have spoken to my partner who has been an operating department practitioner for 16 years. Our advice is never be worried about discussing your fears with the surgical team, they will be aware that this is your first operation and understand the extra stress this will cause you. As for waking up in recovery the team who will be looking after you throughout your time in theatre are well practised at dealing with every eventuality and will not release you back to the ward until they happy with your recovery.

We wish you well and hope everything goes smoothly for you with a reminder to discuss any queries, concerns or fears with the ward staff, your surgeon's team, or the theatre team.

Please don't worry. A close friend lost his kidney to cancer a few months ago and he is a very active person now (I am waiting for transplant so a little envious of his fitness :-) ).

Waking up is a little odd but fun.

I wish you a speedy and comfortable recovery :-)

thanks for all the above messages of support. I know that the most positive thing is to remove it as it is causing too many problems, pain infection and so enlarged. will keep you posted when I get my date.
