Diarrhoea problems whilst having haemodia... - Dialysis Support
Diarrhoea problems whilst having haemodialysis? Usually starts about 3 hrs into dialysis, anyone else having same problem, any advice, help?
Hi I had the same thing when I first started I was put on diazepam and quinine sulphate tablets which have helped a lot I was having really bad stomach cramps with it as well , I hope this helps
this happened once to my husband who had been given a meal whilst on dialysis. it was diagnosed as "gut rush." now he only has a light snack beforehand and a couple of biscuits while on the machine..
Hi there, it's my husband I'm asking about as well, he is getting very distressed whilst on dialysis and it is very upsetting to witness! It is affecting his mental well being terribly but the doctors haven't come up with anything to prevent it happening. As he is diabetic that seems to be getting the blame for everything, trying to say it's his nervous sytem causing the problems, but the bowel problems are not happening all the time mainly start whilst on the machine and then into the night but is usually fine the next day! I would have thought if it was something to do with his nervous system it would be happening all the time. Anyway, he is convinced that it is the dialysis that is causing it but his consultant refuses to acknowledge that it might be so I thought I'd see if there was anyone out there with similar problems. We have tried him just having toast for breakfast and not eating lunch before he goes which, as he is diabetic, is not so good as we have to make sure he doesn't have a hypo whilst on dialysis! It worked once or twice but then back to square one! He doesn't do things by half!! Thanks for your input though.
i too am a diabetic but have never experienced problems like this.i am on a tablet called calcium acetate - prescribed by the doctor and these seem to act as a binding agent and since being on these have had few instances of diarrhoea.my sugar levels are a lot better controlled now and this has made a difference.i am on an evening dialysis and always have my tea before i go and normally have a snack and drink whilst on the machine.whatever you do dont miss mealtimes as this wont resolve the issue and as you have said may lead to a hypo.
