Metformin is one of the safest drug. It does not cause hypoglycaemia even at high doses.

It controls the sugar by improving the absorption of glucose through peripheral muscles and tissues. It corrects elevated hepatic glucose output ( glucose production from liver). It opposes certain actions( gluconeogenic action) of glucagon.
