I think your diabetes is under control now. But that does not mean you can stop the medicine on your own. I have met people who took medicines for some time and then could stop it after advice from doctors. You may also consult your doctors at regular intervals and continue with the food and exercise regulations.

I am saying these as a patient having diabetes for last six years. A qualified doctor (not quacks) should be able to guide you better.

Thank you for your reply. Your inference may be right. I need to check with my doctor.

Please make sure the frequency of testing is meaningful to arrive to conclusion. Assuming you have at least 4/5 values per week we can reasonably say your diabetes is well controlled. Also you should check occasional Random blood sugar and take opinion of diabetes specialist doctor.

Meals- 100g of cooked boiled rice (equal to 50g of raw rice) along with cooked vegetables and usual dishes of vegetarian nature. I prefer meals in the morning.

Your age please, and also for how many years you suffer? Get HbA1c level . As it is you are controlling well.

My age 52. I have been diagonsed as IGT. Suffering for the past three years. I started Metformin 1000mg when my PPBS crossed 160-220 during sept.2009. I walk around 100 - 120 k.m. in a month with a calorie conscious diet. Now, even if I violate my diet schedule I am able to maintain the values under control. My latest hba1c reads as 5.8. I am trying to cut down my drug as half of the prescribed. In my observation walking 5 k.m. a day controls my BS in a good manner.

Single dose of Metformin 1000 mg (1Gram) once daily is not advisable. Have it as 500 mg twice a day if on mono therapy.

I am feeling drowzy when I take Metformin in the morning besides some sort of gastric trouble. That is why I prefer to continue in the night.

You should not starve and take metformin. There should be some food followed by metformin. I think that is where you need review and report.
