Ragi could be a wonderful health food but it's high glycemic index makes it a poor choice for diabetics,in my view.

Good thing about millets is that they eaten as whole grains and so have lots of fiber, minerals and other nutrients. But at the end of the day, they are loaded with carbohydrates.I feel that, you try them along with some glycemic foods and exercise and see if the combination works for you.You can share your observations on the forum.

Millets are NOT good for regular use in human. It is meant for birds and animals. Human do not have an enzyme called CELLULASE, which digest the outer coating of mullets, and hence lot of putrefaction of the undigested materials emit gas in the stomach, with hydrogen sulphide content, which is an obnoxious smell. Millet may be OK , in small quantifies, with husk removed. Millet do have high degree of fiber content, which is HARMFUL to the velvety intestinal mucosa, as they tear the normal ecogenic bacteria, which harbors in the velvety mucosa. For diabetic , it is foolish to think that millet do wonder. It is a different taste, and one once in a while can use for a different taste. Otherwise it is NO benefit, MORE harmful, than normal grains. It is obvious some of the birds even, remove the husk and eat only the kernels of millet. See the love birds, they do like that. NEVER USE MILLET REGULARLY. IT IS HARMFUL

I eat millet occasionally, but admit I am not good after with it. I can't take any other grains either, but I was not diagnosed as diabetic - I have allergies and digestive problems since liver, kidney, gut damage with prescribed drugs.

I'm Regularly using pearl millet. Helps maintaining sugar level under control. Better than wheat and sorghum for me. Don't go on just constituents, look at which food is affecting your blood glucose levels. Because everybody's digestive system is different ,so some persons can tolerate certain foods, and some persons can't. Each of these cereals have some benefits of their own, so omitting all these is not a good idea.
