A diabetic When already suffering from coronary heart disease, is it advisable to go for high fat and high cholesterol diet ?

Atherosclerosis is the cause of blockage of arteries. These atherosclerotic patches are mostly composed of cholesterol and other fats. So a clarification is warranted.

You need to do the research patliputra.

There is plenty of information out there. Blaming cholesterol, arguably the most important substance in the body (which makes most of the chemical itself), for heart disease just because it's in a plaque is like blaming firemen for fires because they are always there at the scene, or policemen wandering round the scene of a crime.

Thank you for your suggestion. But be kind enough to guide me to a single site which answers my queries.please remember , I am not a surface talker.

Dear patliputra.

Take help of yoga. Very scientific. The only remedy for triple vessel block is either coronary artery bypass as in acute case or development of collateral blood vessels as in case of gradual blockade.

Well if it's not urgent yoga is definitely going to help you by helping in development of collaterals.

I always follow logical and scientific and which suits to my liking and taste.

Dietary overdose of vita won't cause any appreciable harm. But mega doses of vita c will cause severe intestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

In some cases even headache, insomnia and renal stone.

By the same definition as vitamins are supplements, INSULIN is also a supplement.😀😀

I wrote about me and not science. I do not care about FDA.

The mentioned web site carries a research paper which says it will prove conclusively that saturated fat is not the cause of CHD.

It does not qualify to answer my poser. Query stands as it is.

Good luck next time.

I go to California and not Arizona, quite far. No chance to meet him. But I will try to get his phone no.and try to talk to him about my query.

Thanks for letting me know.

You cannot eat high fat, with CHD.,OTHER STORIES MENTIONED ARE MEANINGLESS.

I stand what i have said,it irrelevent, you cannot force your opinion anyway.

@Concerned. Thank you for referring to a very good web site. But please read the bottom line of page 5 which ends in a question mark.

Hi Paliputra,

Understand that cholesterol is not the basic problem here. Without cholesterol we would all be dead - just think: cholesterol is the basic substance that make up the sex hormones in the body and you want to get rid of it!! No, cholesterol is actually doing a great job of patching up the arteries, etc which have become inflamed and broken. The primary issue is INFLAMMATION. Diabetics and those with coronary issues have this problem. Lower your high inflammatory status and excess production of cholesterol won't be needed. They function like selotape and plasters that help us through patching up those inflamed arteries to prevent bleeding or worse.

Claiming that cholesterol is the bad guy and trying to get rid of it is like barking up the wrong tree and the worst things is to go about lowering it with drugs instead of, say, making lifestyle changes. Getting rid of cholesterol is like removing a signpost - without that signpost, can one find the way home? The signpost is saying, hey, you are not eating right so make lifestyle changes fast. The culprit is usually the unbridled use of refined sugar, refined oils, refined flour, refined salt, etc. - those things that we like to eat to excess.

Sorry to say, you are miles out of target. I simply want to know that if some one suffers from Cad and chd, is it advisable for him to take high fat diet ?

Btw, I have studied cholesterol and other fats in great detail.

Be on safer side. Cut down carbs and calorie intake. Take moderate amount of good fat. Review your health parameters and adjust your diet accordingly.

I am doing that. Thanks.

I'm learning a lot and sharing my understanding. I will be happy if someone is benefited 👍

Well said.👌

Never, ever take statins, not even the raw product from which it is synthetically derived, which is red yeast rice. Both will adversely affect your liver. Google up Mercola article on Red Yeast Rice and you will get the facts. It has recently been found to actually cause T2DM (Type 2 D. Mellitus). It does help with cardiovascular issues but the risks to health in other areas is not worth it.

I am being dumb. I could not find answer, though I have read the complete article, from top to bottom.

Nevertheless , thank you for the trouble.

Anupji.

Blocked arteries are rock solid obstructions. Can be overcome either by cardiac cathaterisation and stenting or obviating the effects of obstruction either by coronary bypass or development of collateral circulation.

So any treatment can stop further development provided the causative factors are taken care of.

Only acute blocks can be removed by streptokinase or similar drugs if given in time say 2 to 3 hours of the blockade. As the time passes these clots get organized by fibrosis and can't be removed medically.

I'm not supporting high carb low fat diet. On the contrary i'm advocating zero carb diet with sureity that it will not cause keto acidosis because glucose can't be so low in blood because of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis.

Now coming to your querry. There are multiple factors that cause arteries to choke. If you go by medical books the etiology would range from idiopathic to environment to diet to genes.

As per my understanding any disease process starts early in the life. Choking of arteries too. But then there are precipitating factors. Major factors can be or are

1) family hostory. Genes.

2) living style. Sedentary life style.

3) irregular diet habits. Junk food causing high degree of oxidative stresses damage all the tissues of the body but the damage is seen more at the arteries because if arteries are damaged the oxygenation and nutrition of vital organs suffer.

4) any toxin be it high sugar concentration in the tissues or tobacco or nascent oxygen produced because of oxidative stress damage the arterial endothelium. The repair process results in blockade of arteries.

5) this is a general overview. There may be many other factors too.

But eating much more and junk food definitely cause arterial blockade. The main cause of arterial inflammation is carbs and fats are like fire brigade. One should diabetic or not eat less carbs but more protein and good fat.

Ya. You have high risk for both but medicine is not like 1+1=2. It can be anything.

But although you are high risk genetically you have inherited only half genes from your father. May be your mother genes are strong enogh to protect you. Also your life style and all other precipitating factors might be different from your father.

Wish you good luck. Remain healthy for the whole life.

@suramo,

Even the words of some experts here give a feeling that they belive & expect 1+1=2 type of result in medicine & health issues.

Some go down even to the level of bargaining!

patliputra profile image
patliputra

I like not to butt in,but couldn't. The moot point is all those factors mentioned by you are secondary. How as a matter of fact atherosclerotic process starts ? The other point is why ?

suramo profile image
suramoStar

May be but 2 factors. Genetic predisposition and precipitating factors contribute to the development of any disease.

Nature by virtue drops the bad genes or the bad genes are suppressed by good genes. So if any of the parents has strong genes your diseases may not show up. Medicine is very complicated. We humans are yet to find out a lot about the diseases.
