Simple lifestyle measures have been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes. To help prevent type 2 diabetes and its complications, people should:--

* achieve and maintain healthy body weight;

* be physically active – at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity activity on most days. More activity is required for weight control;

* eat a healthy diet of between three and five servings of fruit and vegetables a day and reduce sugar and saturated fats intake;

* avoid tobacco use – smoking increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Heart disease and stroke can be prevented through healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoiding tobacco smoke. Individuals can reduce their risk of CVDs by engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco use and second-hand tobacco smoke, choosing a diet rich in fruit and vegetables and avoiding foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt, and maintaining a healthy body weight and avoiding the harmful use of alcohol.

What is CVD? What CDs or DVDs got to do with Diabetes. Do you want to say that when playing thes Cds and DVDs, radiations are emitted and these radiations cause diabetes?

CVD means cardiovascular disease. Epidemiology suggests a number of risk factors for heart disease: age, gender, high blood pressure, high serum cholesterol levels, tobacco smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, family history, obesity, lack of physical activity, psychosocial factors, diabetes mellitus, air pollution.

Type 2 diabetes is a disease more commonly associated with adults. In fact, it used to be called adult-onset diabetes. But type 2 diabetes in children is on the rise, fueled largely by the obesity epidemic.

There's plenty you can do to help manage or prevent type 2 diabetes in children. Encourage your child to eat healthy foods, get plenty of physical activity and maintain a healthy weight. If diet and exercise aren't enough to control type 2 diabetes in children, oral medication or insulin treatment may be needed.

Immediately after my 400 metres hurdles race, my coach used to give me 5 table spoons full of Glucose from a packet which he used to carry in his bag. It was just like a powdered sugar. Do you mean powdered sugar is called carbohydrate?

Thank you ji. Now somewhat clear. So, when we filter atta (flour) it becomes Maida which we used as starch for our clothes. This means Maida is more dangerous that cheeni/Khand (sugar) for diabetes as this is in the fomr of glocose molecule strung together. So, one piece Maida bread is bad as compared to adding one spoon of sugar in a cup of tea.

On a lighter side again....

I will not be surprised if a scientific report comesout telling that DVD watching people have higher incidence of heart attacks and Type II diabetes.

Just as a report came linking Face book advent and halt in cholestrol. reduction in a population.

" Last Sinday when Iwas going to village fair, a crow crowed and a coconut fell down from the tree and fell onmy head. This Sunday, the crow is crowing... I will NOT go to the fair"
