Sharp pain after small white filling

Good morning everybody.

First post under this forum. I had a small white composite filling done on the 31st May in an upper right molar. After 4/5 days I suddenly experienced sharp shooting pain when I closed my mouth and let my bottom and top teeth touch, and when trying to eat.

I went back to the dentist and she filed the filling down a bit and I could close my mouth and clench my teeth with no issue. However when I got home, the pain still continued when trying to eat. Vert sharp, very sudden, lasts only for second but disconcerting to say the least. Went back again a few days later and had it filed down again, also had x-ray taken (no obvious problem found). She performed a bite test on what looked like a bulky bristle free toothbrush and asked if I could feel some cotton wool on my tooth that had been sprayed with something very cold. Everything came back negative but the sharp pain persists. Enough that I can't eat at all on that side.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on. I keep being told how small the filling is but I'm scared and feel less confident in the fact my dentist is confused too.

Hi jellbean87 πŸ˜ŠπŸŒΈπŸŒΏπŸ¦‹

It could be the nerve is extra sensitive or going bad. I’ve had the same experience myself. Keep a close watch on it if it worsens get a second opinion with an oral surgeon. If left unaddressed it can lead to infection that can damage your heart. Don’t want that for sure. Take care and best wishes dear.

you can get post filling placement sensitivity with white fillings, however your sounds more like it needs further filing down.
