Does smoking have a close relationship with dental problems?

Hi,

I hope this is the good platform to ask this query. I happened to read an article the last day( discoverydental.com/blog/de... ). In this, it says that smoking causes periodontal disease. Is it true? Your suggestions and comments will definitely help me to have a look at this seriously.

Thank you
