Our 3 year old has cystinuria, we are hoping to go away on holiday abroad next year and wondered how other cystinuria patients have managed trying to get a low salt diet in hotels in places such as Spain.
Do any of you have any recommendations of places you have been?
Eating out isn’t that easy in this country when trying to stick to a low salt diet, so I’m a bit apprehensive of trying to explain our requirements when there is a language barrier as well.
Any help, experience or advice would be very welcome.

Hi, i talk for my personal (and specific) experience with my son, who was operated when he was 3 y old (and in that case we discored the cystinuria world). after that (10 years) we have understood that the big rule is taking water in combination with tiopronina. We have reduced the salt (as big and general rule beyond the cistynuria) but not in drastic way and i think that 10 (or more of holiday) days don't change the situation.
Hello, I am Spanish and I am sure that in any hotel in Spain they understand you if you ask them to cook with little salt, the problem is not the language, the problem is that everything is cooked with a lot of salt and there is no culture of little salt in any place.
I have a son diagnosed with cystinuria at 20 months, now he is 18 years old, I have never had a problem for a few days of vacation, the important thing is to have a hospital nearby in case something happens, in this disease you never know...
Like Roberto, I think ten days won't make a difference, it's more important to be hydrated.
