Stone Free for almost 2 years

Had another great check up at Guys hospital today! Now stone free for almost 2 years now which is amazing! Over the last two years I have made a lot of changes that I feel may help others. I have completely changed my diet, I have cut down on meat, I still eat it but much less than I use to. I have cut out all processed foods, Sugar and carbs. I no longer drink beer and go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I was over 13 stone a couple of years ago and I’m now just under 10 and feel that best I ever had. I was first diagnosed with Cystinuria when I was 10 back in 2001 and this new lifestyle has been a complete game changer for me. Trying to pass on my positive experience so I can potentially help others in this group!

That’s a great read. Well done you. I also keep to the less animal proteins which can be difficult on some days but with more vegan food available is getting easier. Keep up the positivity 😊

Thank you I appreciate it. I still eat meat just cut back on my intake as I was eating way too much before. One chicken breast between two people is more than enough. I’m not convinced on a Vegan diet. I was vegetarian for 3 years with this condition and that was the worse I have been, kept growing huge stones at that point. A lot of Vegan foods you get in Supermarkets and restaurants is highly processed and full of salt and sugar. The key is none processed food and make everything from scratch including sauces 👍🏻

That is super good news Mike! I agree that making lifestyle changes is the best way to make the biggest impact, or at least get started. Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you so much! 100% it’s so hard to deal with this condition at times. A few years back I felt really stuck in a rut with it and dealing with it and was causing depression but it’s amazing what working out and eating better can do for your mental health and fitness.

That’s brilliant Mike , I’ve been clear for 2 years too and it is life changing knowing I am . It’s only when you become stone free that you realise how bad it was getting stones all the time ! In my case over 30 years !

Great to hear that you are having the same success! Have you also changed your diet and lifestyle! It’s all about the treatment you get as well, I’m under the team at Guys in London and they are incredible!!

Good afternoon, I am the mother of an 18-year-old boy with cystinuria, I am encouraging him to lead a healthy life without processed foods, little salt, lots of fruit and vegetables and of course water.

I would like to know if you continue to have success with your lifestyle with these horrible stones.

Thank you very much

hello! Yes all about the healthy eating, everything cooked from scratch and working out for me. Been doing this now since the start of 2019 and still free of stone. Not saying this will work for everyone but seems to do the trick for me.

that's great!!!

May I know how old are you? I understand that adolescent age is hard on this disease

I am 31 now and have had this since I was 10 but the last 3 years is the best I have ever been. I use to be very over weight and was constantly in and out with Large stones, I am now healthy in every way

This is amazing news! I have also cut down on meat and animal proteins and I am doing much better. I know everyone is different, but it seems to be working so far.

that is brilliant, great to hear. I went vegetarian 15 years ago and unfortunately it had the reverse effect on me and that was the worst period of stones I’ve had. Think I was still eating a lot of processed stuff though which I think is the worst thing as it full of salt and bad proteins.
