Staghorn kidney stones and bladder stones

Hi I am a new member to this group but have suffered with Cystinuria and subsequent stones since first diagnosed in about 1963. Have been on Penacillimine for about 45 years. Currently I have a staghorn stone in my left kidney a small stone in the right and a bladder stone and am having a long wait for an NHS appointment to get these stones sorted. With no stones for the past 15 - 20 years I wonder why the stones have returned now is this to do with ageing or may be the menopause.

With the laser techniques available I am hoping for a good outcome so much different to open surgery which I have had before.

Hi bertrussell. Sorry for the delay in replying. We are just getting this group going. I hope you have got your stones treated by now. You are right that technology has definitely moved on and open surgery is almost ever needed.

Why do they come back now? We don't know but we do see this pattern in patients with cystinuria with bad times and then long periods of good times.

Hope to see you back on this forum soon.
