Azile$t is MAO-B and I believe I have read that the cold meds are okay with it. I have taken the usual OTC cold meds ...NyQuill etc... without any adverse effect. Always best to check with your PCP or pharmacy.

I don't know about Miripex.

I was told by my neurologist when I started taking

Azilect that I should be especially careful with the following: methadone, demerol or meperadine, tramadol, and especially dextromethorphan, which is found in most cough medicines and over-the-counter cold remidies. You have to really the read the small print some on these., which says, consult your doctor if taking this drug for parkinson's disease. If it says something that has a "D" on the front, it usually is not recommended for someone with PD.

You make a good point ...from the NPF Pharmacist

I tend not to be very cautious ... and will pay the piper someday.

Just went through this with my dad who has PD. I talked to the pharmacist and he basically said any cold medication will reverse the effects of Mirapex and worsen Parkinson's symptoms. He suggested an antihistamine, but to always check the back of the packaging to make sure that it doesn't say "Don't take if you have Parkinson's or are taking an MAOI inhibitor". I ended up getting him some Rite Aid generic antihistamine and he also took Tylenol for congestion pain. All-in-all he's up and around, with no adverse side effects. I'm sure you're feeling better by now, but hope this info helps in the future.
