Belize. We are thinking of possibly movin... - Cure Parkinson's
Belize. We are thinking of possibly moving there. If you have PD can you give me some insight please? Thanks
When diagnosed with PD 11yrs. ago- my first thoughts were about the future re long term health care - which I didnt' want to burdenn my husband or my kids with. Even tho, i have the best kids and husband in the world who would have taken care of me. But, what about all our life styles and quality of life?? So, off we went to Panama, which turned out to be too hot. After 4 years of fun and lots of friends in Panama, we moved to Medelllin, Colombia instead for the spring like weather all year round. Much better. Less English speaking retirees here, but wonderful place. don't know about Belize - but the point is that I think it's a good idea for PD people to think about the long term healthcare and the affordablility and quality of healthcare for us. We had to skip the thoughts of where to retire for enjoyement and went to where to retire for the advanced years when mobility becomes an issue. In the end, the place you choose is somewhere that will be good for both. Not only affordability, but does it have affordable in home nursing, domestic help, public transportation, accessibilty for the family to visit, etc. etc.
Thanks!
I know a couple from our church that have moved there to do missions work. From what they told us there seem to be some really poor areas and then there are the nicer tourist places. I don't know what medical facilities would be available. It looked like a beautiful country.
