I was told by a nurse to take 1 tsp. 2x a day. It's hard to swallow so she told me to let it melt or put in the microwave and mix it with juice or put it on toast, oatmeal, etc. I also use it as a replacement for oil in cooking or baking. Hope this helps. Blessings.

I read a book called "Alzheimer's Disease - What If There Was a Cure" written by Dr. Mary T. Newport whose husband suffers from Alzheimer's. She says it is also good for other disease including Parkinson's and other Dementias. You start with 1 teaspoon per meal and work your way up slowly over a weeks time. Taking too much too fast will cause indigestion, cramping and diarrhea. The goal is to gradually increase to four to 6 tablespoons a day depending on your body size. You can melt it in the microwave and take as a liquid or use it for cooking - use instead of butter on toast, bagels, corn on the cob, grits, pasta, etc. just use your imagination. You can also stir fry or saute with it. You can put it in soup, sauces, salad dressings, etc. My husband suffers from PD as well as Dementia so I use this quite a bit in my cooking. It isn't so good taking it by the teaspoon. I know it's good for you but I actually haven't experienced any great results from this but have to admit I never did get up to the 4 tablespoon as noted. Coconut oil is easily absorbed into the body and increases absorption of certain vitamins and minerals and is also good for the cells. I myself use it for a skin softener and it works great so it has many different uses. I guess anything is worth a shot as everyone is different so what may work for one person might not work for someone else. I would suggest giving it a try in your cooking and see how you like the taste and flavor of it. I use it all the time and really do like the taste of it and hope we are getting some benefits from it as well. Good luck!

What particular brand do you use and where do you get it. I too take coconut oil, but I don't have dementia , I just have PD. it is hard to say if it helps because I guess I did know the goal was to get to 6 Tsp. of oil. Do you take the dosages 2 Tsp. at a time 3x daily or do you use 6 Tsp. 1 every 2hr, etc.. By the way, thanks for the info.i

I try to take 1Tablespoon 3 times a day. The brand is Artisana raw organic coconut butter, it doesn't taste that bad, but may take a little gettting used to. I like it now. It helps rebuilds cells, ie neurons...

I use Barlean's Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from Amazon.com. The Artisana brand is also very good. Make sure whatever brand you buy says it's organic, raw or extra virgin as this is more flavorful and not exposed to high levels of heat. Coconut oil is supposed to be really good for you.
