I take 6 a day of Stalevo! Have DBS on one side of brain only! Had to stop surgery because of bleeding in the brain when they started other side. I take one sinemet at bed time along with anti anxiety meds!

Blessings,

Yes I used to take reg and cr's of Carb/levo the generic of Sinemet but it would not absorbed so I take Sinemet reg and CR (time released) I had the DBS surgery April 2013, then we added a 8 mg neupro 24 patch that did the trick, 12 pills a day plus the patch, and lavender oil for cramps, try not look at how much meds you take, I m just thankful something does work for now. I feel good and try to just get out and live life.. MOVEMENT is the key, Have a great day, Kadie

I thought the whole point of DBS is not having to take meds anymore. I couldn't put myself thru that surgery if I wasn't med free afterward.

My husband had DBS in 2004 his meds went from over 20 a day to 6 a day.I understand its not like that for all but the DBS helps my husband with his diskynesiss which he had 24/7 now its slowly coming back but he was totally free of it for almost 9yrs.I know what my husband would say.he would go through it all again.Yes he suffers from falls and has a problem with his speech but like most things there are pros and cons to everything.at the end of the day the choice is yours but dont think that it is a replacement for meds its not its an extra aid to help with PD

That is what I thought as well. Why bother if after you need to take even more meds. Seems like a huge waste of money as DBS is very expensive wheather it is you thaat pays for it or insurance. The money could be put to better use finding a way for meds that work betteer.

I had DBS June 2012. It had worked quite well. However, I was in a car accident as a passenger in January. Still in progress in reprogramming DBS and meds. Some of my PD symptoms that DBS stopped has returned since the accident. I had great success prior to car accident.

Had DBS in February of 2012. Take same amt of meds - carbidopa/ levadopa and requip as before surgery, DBS helped my gait quite a bit , don't fall as often and am not "off" nearly as much -- has been worth it to me-- had lived in fear of breaking a hip- I am a good candidate - small 70 year old Caucasian female , with tendency toward osteoporosis
