I had Clear Point DBS in June 2012 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. My surgeon was Mark Richardson, whom I hold in high regard. For me, Clear Point was the only way I would have had DBS. There are other posts here that I have commented about the procedure. The surgeons who perform this surgery must have special, different training. It's still pretty new and the jury is out on which way is better--likely answer is --it depends on which one is better for you. Feel free to e-mail me.
Was the DBS successful. I am a paying patient ( no heath cover) as an international patient. Keen to get a better fix on the cost itemised. Hope you can help
so far, so good. I had no complications of either surgery. I think that the real key is the programming/neuro team you have to follow up. It takes a while, and everyone's pace is different, to get the programming and meds in sync. I'm still working on that; but, overall, the improvement in my lifestyle makes it worth it. As to cost, I suggest that you begin a conversation with the various neurosurgery departments that offer Clear Point. You'll see them listed when you Google Clear Point DBS. Good Luck...
CharlieMadge: I see that you are in Australia. The Clear Point technology was pioneered at UCSF San Francisco. My neurosurgeon in Pittsburgh was trained by them. That would be a good place for you to begin your research. Good Luck
Thanks, appreciate your followup
