I do anything I can to get my mind off my discomfort and off myself. Concentrating hard on writing something is much better than reading, or watching television. Self-hypnosis is the answer. Stay away from people. If you're physically able, do what interests you, like gardening or housework, or exercise. Time passes.
Try meditation. That is what i do when i have an off day and can't get comfy anywhere. Sit back if you can and close your eyes. Imagine that there is an empty space, or swirling mist, nothing else. After a few minutes of this the mist parts and you see a favourite scene, flower or a favourite item that you treasure. Think of this and you will find yourself relaxing. Then you can open your eyes and you will feel better inside and most of the time able to carry on whatever you were doing before.
This is what i do when i get an off day and get worked up about something or get anxious. I was taught this by a therapist. Try it.
Evening I think is the worst part trying to get comfy.
I realise if I cant get comfortable, I must do something physical, anything.
In winter it is more difficult, in Summer I just go out.
It's hard to answer. I go off and meds don't kick in if I am constipated (sorry!) . Like oldtyke I try to keep moving doing something go for a walk, clean something, put on music. Eventually I have urge to lay down and stretch out and might nap 10 minutes. I don't know which is worse -- to be off and apologizing sorry my meds are off or overmedicated and waving and swaying with every word -- oops too much caffeine
I put my relaxing music on with my earphones then I get in my recliner and try to make myself go limp. After about 20 min. I feel better Also I have discovered if I eat a bannana every day it really helps.. Think positive thoughts Try to enjoy the good moments.God bless.
When I feel one of those downers coming - I am quick to locate my mp3 player, listen to
motivation message, audiobook from library, music which I may dance to, go for a walk, ride staionary bike or just lie down and relax. The key I have learnt is to know my own body and try to understand what is happening in my brain and how best to balance things for myself.
Living with PD is an hourly challenege, a full time job, everyday is different look for what is best for you for that moment. Keep smiling and people will think you have a big secret.
Have had PD for 10years with no hassle , but the past couple of months things have changed, freezing. It is so scary , trying to settle in bed is a nightmare. Got an appointment this week, hope we can work something out. As some of you say get plugged in sit back & relax, had to train myself to do it though.
I try to always have a good novel handy so when I can't cope with anything I just curl up in a chair and read my novel. It is restful and it is also an escape. Usually after an hour or so I feel better and can get up and do things and talk to people again.
