Is anyone but me on Azilect only? When I... - Cure Parkinson's
Is anyone but me on Azilect only? When I tried to add Sinemet I had very high blood pressure spikes so I had to go off it.
I was on Azilect only in the beginning seven years ago. It is a mono therapy approach. Many neuros like to start with that first to evaluate if that's enough and if, indeed, it does slow the progression. I took it, and observed all the ridiculous dietary restrictions, for several years, but I couldn't put up with the nausea that came with it. That's when we tried SinemetCR. I did not take them together.
I started on Azilect nearly 5 years ago to see if it would give my then cocktail of Requip, Amantadine and Sinemet Plus a boost and boy, did it do the business. It completely changed my life and I am better now than when I started it. The real tragedy of Pd is that because something works for one, it doesn't necessarily work for someone else
I believe it slows down progression - and therefore it does - never underestimate the power of the mind
Azilect was contraindicated with my anti depressant - Seroxat - but after various consultations, I decided the risk was worth taking. Now the reseachers believe that Serotonin has a major part to play in Pd so my mind is working along the lines of "perhaps this is is also oplaying a part in my well being?>
I am a 10 year veteran and, of course, have my off days but a nap can sort out most things
Thank you for your positive answer. I also take Paxil and all my doctors have questioned it but then let me use it. I also take a nap each day.
I've been on it for 11/2 years and doing pretty well.

It is interesting about your BP hikes. I have read of this before for Sinemet but more especially I have for Azilect. Did anyone suggest it could have been a drug interaction? For instance I read on one site:that Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Sinemet. particularly MAOIs (eg, phenelzine) risk of severe high blood pressure and Tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline) because the risk of high blood pressure. You are on neither but just wondering.
