Am worried as 3 years into pd i find it ... - Cure Parkinson's
Am worried as 3 years into pd i find it too hard to open bottles, unscrew jars etc..is it true for all of us? ..
Unfortunately for some people with PD this is the case although there are utensils around that will help in this area. Search engine for internet is a good place to start
I concur with Drew, There are some great gadgets you can find on the Net.
Thanks..i do yoga , stretching and some exercises with 1 kilo weights but wrists and shoulders weak since having 2 frozen shoulders..
I also require mechanical help.
Yes, and I ask my neighbor or assistant to open any I can't.
I know the problem.
Is there anything we can do to improve the weakness?
As the caregiver for my husband, I can honestly said he has a lot of trouble opening bottles, ESPECIALLY medicine bottles. We ask for non childproof caps. He received a refill on his carbidopa/levadopa recently and even I couldn't open the manufacturer's bottle. I had to break the top with a hammer and put the medication in his old pill bottle. I have arthritis in my hands and it is difficult for me to open bottles of tylenol, excederin, aspirin, etc. I understand the safety concerns, but there should be some way to make the bottles easier to open for people who have disabilities. I have picked up some grip pads at caregiver seminars, but that does not help with medication bottles.
Rubber bands are very helpful, thick ones. You can get them cheaply at Office Depot or Staples.
Also, I've had PD for 17 years and my symptoms have changed over time. I used to have trouble opening jars and with pain in my arm; but after physical therapy and exercise I no longer do.
