Rare or not?

A while ago I saw a cardiologist and asked about the new fat-fixing pills. He didn't know about it so he said it's too new for him to prescribe. Then yesterday I saw my GP. I asked her the same thing. She said they're great drugs and have saved lives. BUT She says the medication can cause constipation. Because PD is already giving me constipation she feels it might not be the best thing for me.

I'm wondering whether the constipation is a common side effect or a once-in-a-blue moon situation? Any thoughts?

TIA,

kpo

I took it for 1 month and it did constipate, me even worse than I was already. However, I didn't drink enough water or make sure to get enough fiber. I lost muscle mass because of a lack of desire to eat and didn't weight lift. AND the worst part for me, which doesn't happen for all, is it gave me hair loss. Who knew? Apparently, when you loose weight quickly. don't get enough nutrients, some people react with temporary hair loss. Its called telogen effluvium. After I went off that drug, it took about 3 months for my hair to stop shedding and maintain.

So, if you're determined to do it, make sure you force yourself to eat healthy and make sure to eat enough protein to prevent muscle loss (which is hard for PD folks to work around eating protein since protein complicates absorption of meds), drink lots of water for constipation, workout with weights for muscle loss, eat fiber foods for constipation and supplements such as magnesium citrate ( may need more than the dose on the bottle) and/or vit C for constipation. What is the pill called?

They may be talking about the GLP-1’s in pill form. The injection form has been around awhile now. See this from the Cleveland Clinic:

Description of GLP-1.

One of the most common reported side effects of the GLP-1s is constipation.
