Sleep disturbances in dementia and Parkinson’s disease are both a symptom and a contributing factor to disease progression, as neurodegenerative changes disrupt circadian rhythms, melatonin production, and motor control, while poor sleep accelerates cognitive decline, neuroinflammation, and oxidative stress.

Everyone on this site should read this article. I strongly believe insomnia plays havoc with people’s brains. I believe the single most important change I personally have made is fixing my sleep hygiene. Being retired, I could play with every variable. I have been able to tweak several things that have made a huge difference and I would suggest all on this site should pay attention to how important sleep is to wellbeing.
