My sister has YOPD and is trying Mucuna in a powder form from India. It works at times and then the next batch doesn't. She is healthy and doing well but wants to try a better version of mucina. I want to ask the community about HPLC capsules because they might be more consistent. She also struggles at night - no meds at all. She works with a natural doctor who has given some good advice.
What is the best Mucuna for my sister? HPLC? - Cure Parkinson's
What is the best Mucuna for my sister? HPLC?

I use a dutch brand for mucuna, but mostly I use dlpa from iherbs any brand
Thank you. We have tried a few brands. None seem to be consistent. Her neurologist suggested a standardised brand but I forgot the name and the neuro has not answered my calls.
Find a brand that has a standardized % of levodopa listed. I started with NOW mucuna(15% levodopa), then moved to Barlowe’s(40% levodopa), and now use NutriVita(99% levodopa). Join the FB group Mucuna Pruriens Parkinson and tead the file Calculation pdf for dosage advise.
Hi barrie,
Thank you for posting.
>now use NutriVita (99% levodopa)
About how many grams do you take at a time, and how many times per day?
Are you also taking carbidopa? If not, what are you taking to minimize peripheral metabolism?
How are you feeling at present about the NutriVita?
Thank you in advance for any comments.
p.s. I take Now brand Dopa Mucuna, 2 capsules (120 mg L-dopa equivalent), 3x per day, with carbidopa 25 mg each dose.
Great advice. We tried the Now one but her neuro wants the levels to be around 60%. I am going to call her again today to ask what she recommends.
Grams? No milligrams! This is 99% levodopa!
Stay with what you are taking and gradually increase until your symptoms are improved.
I don’t use C/L, so I take more mucuna. I take with vitamin C and green tea extract instead of carbidopa. These help it to cross the blood brain barrier but probably not quite as well.
I feel relatively good with what I am taking right now. It does take some adjustments. I am taking approximately 375-400 mg NutriVita 4 x day. Sometimes I take a little more if I am taking after a high protein meal or if I’m feeling a bit off.
I will suggest the green tea to my sister. Her neuro finally got back and said is called macu-dopa. I will update in a while as we have a supply of Now and will try this one later.
