Ketamine is an old anesthetic. I used it daily in my veterinary practice. It worked for all species. I used it in horses, cattle, sheep. dogs, cats and birds. It's a "dissociative" anesthetic. I experimented with it. And it literally dissociates one from the immediate environment. I gave myself an IV dose. When it took effect I felt I was floating above the room watching myself.

I tried this because I'd read that ketamine can treat depression when standard treatments aren't helping. There are ketamine clinics that do exactly that.

I don't think I'd enjoy feeling like I was floating above the room watching myself. Maybe the benefits (neuroplasticity) for PD are at a lower dose over time

I guess that was your one and done try?

Not quite. I tried it again a day later. But I injected IM rather than IV. The only difference was a longer effect, probably because IM drugs are broken down slower than IV. I've felt no need to try it again since then.

"... I felt I was floating above the room watching myself."

Perhaps this could explain what some persons report of their near death experience. A release of an endogenous ketamine or ketamine-like chemical.

Did it for depression long time ago. It was helpful (a bit) but mostly REALLY interesting. But it was combined with psychotherapy, to help process the experience. I got lucky, it was at the beginning of ketamine therapy, and i got a discounted price from fabulous practitioners.

Without the psychotherapy, it apparently is helpful for some, but its still pricey. I find working with a somatic focused therapist more helpful, for trauma. And looking at "brain retraining programs" to help calm overactive sympathetic nervous system (anxiety, fight, flight freeze).

did it when I was at my lowest after my diagnosis of Parkinson’s. If you can do the IV. It’s a much gentler way of taking it. The first couple of treatments were taken by a shot. It hits you pretty hard. One minute you’re in this world, the next minute you’re somewhere else. It’s an instant relief, but I found only lasted for a few days if I didn’t get my mind right while I was doing good . A lot of my Parkinson’s symptoms are non-motor. The most effective thing that I’ve ever done is go on the carnivore diet. I’ve done the keto diet, which helps a lot, but not as much as the carnivore diet .Nicotine also helps with depression in addition to motor symptoms, if you’re in the right mindset.
