the LSVT exercises that are to strengthen the voice has also helped some with swallowing and there is a video on utube with some of them that you could use for a start and I am not able to put the video on here so if you go to youtube and enter LSVT therapy for Parkinson's I hope it will come up for you.

I've seen many on YouTube for LSVT but when I practice their particular exercises I run out of breath and my hoarseness worsens. I always have to stop as it seems their particular exercises more geared towards voice worsens what I go through with swallowing, choking issues.

I am sorry you have had this experience. These exercises seem to help my husband but it seems like there is variation in symptoms and what could help

Yes, I agree. It's important to have the modified barium test done I feel so they can see exactly where the issue is in choking and then determine the appropriate therapy. And also rule out other symptoms and focus on the particular needs of each. Some of us have no issues with our 'voice' as a primary symptom, but choking and swallowing are the main issue. Therapy I had in the past that was applied was generalized and not appropriate for my condition.

So sorry to hear this. I've recently experienced. It's so scary. Aspirating. How did you avert the worst of it?

I have found that exercises that focus more on using the tongue and strengthening (for oral motor deficits) has helped me most with choking, coughing and swallowing where no vocal issues exist. I saw a Speech Therapist who had me performing the LSVT exercises for voice and it made my condition worse, she released me after 2 weeks not knowing what to do. I recently found videos that demonstrate exercises by an OT that focus on strengthening for swallowing (and voice) without straining vocal cords. Not sure of your particular needs. Swallowing and choking treatment I think involve the use of different techniques to help that may vary for each of us. Give this a look youtube.com/watch?v=4SNO61r...
