I have a recurring pain or tension in my belly that I wonder if you can help me with. It feels like a big knot in the area between my bottom of my sternum and my belly button. I haven't tracked enough to know if it happens when I'm on or off, but the last few days it seems mostly when I'm off. Not sure about that for sure.
I have asked three neurologists if this could be some kind of dystonia in my belly. One said "no, dystonia is only in the limbs." The other said yes could be trunkal or diaphragm dystonia. The other said maybe. Perhaps I am imagining this, it could be a hiatal hernia as well. I have a very small, asymptomatic one. This along with everything else seems to be more easily blamed on Parkinson's (5.5 years).
Anyone experience this? If so, how do you get that knot to relax, or better yet, not come back?
Thank you for your help,
Kevin

I have wondered the same thing about a reoccurring cramp I get on the left side (effected side) of my abdomen between the lower ribs and belly button. I always thought it could be a hernia (never had it check out), but I'm have been wondering the same thing as you lately. I already experience dystonia in my left foot and wrist. I used to experience it in my left shoulder, but that was has mostly resolved.
Interesting. Our pain seems to be in the same place. Have you tracked it see if it coincides with your c/l on/off cycle? I am having trouble doing that. And once the pain starts, it doesn’t go away until I go to sleep. Seems like if it was related to my carbidopa, the pain come and go with my dosing?
Your evaluation seems logical. I'm going to try to see if I can identify a correlation for mine as well. I can say that I don't remember having this pain early in the day.
I get this as well, especially in the evenings, when I wake up in the middle of the night, and in the mornings too. My MDS claims you can't get dystonia in your diaphragm; my PT's opinion is that you can but she also suggests may be the abdominal muscles, which I agree with. I also wonder, at times, if due to slow digestion. I find meditation, focusing on the breath and breathing air into and through the tight area, to be helpful. For me, the tendency is to tighten up and clench around pain, discomfort, and tension, making it worse.
