No fan of Dr Greger either. He continues to recommend raising uric acid levels even though that was shown to be adverse for Parkinson's. Details here: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...
So is it only adverse if one is on meds? My levels are 3.6 Is that dangerously low?
A textbook on clinical methods says: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK273/
"Hypouricemia [low uric acid] produces no symptoms or known morbidity. Its fortuitous discovery on automated chemistry screening requires no therapy but should alert the physician to search for an underlying cause."
In other words low uric acid is not adverse and there's no such thing as dangerously low. If it is unexplained there is reason to look for a cause, but if you're eating a low protein diet that would be the cause and there's nothing to worry about.
On the other hand, raising uric acid levels is always adverse and should never be undertaken, as explained at the link in my prior comment.
Interesting. So then vegans would be more likely to have lower uric acid levels? Wonder why Gregor doesn't mention this as a proponent of a vegan diet.
