Hi

Have you noticed any difference between brand and generic type of Carbidopa / Levodopa in regard to effectiveness or side effects.

Appreciate your help

I ve noticed over the years of being on this site, some people have noticed if their meds are altered to a generic one as some people are more sensitive than others to the components that make up the pill. My HWP has been given a different make of Rasagaline, a MAO B inhibitor recently, as it’s becoming difficult to obtain in some areas of the U.K. He has noticed no difference at all when taking it.

However a couple of years ago the pharmacist gave him a mix of Madopar, with both generic and another make. He returned it to the pharmacy and waited for his usual pills.

I have wondered about that. But I've been wondering if the generic pill I've been using has been changed without my knowledge. It suddenly stopped working. Of course this could be due to the disease getting worse, but it was so sudden.

when Merck took Sinimet (levodopa/carbidopa brand name) I struggled to find a generic c/l that did not make me so nauseous. Per the FDA, “Up to a 20 percent difference in a drug's absorption is acceptable for a generic”. michaeljfox.org/news/ask-md.... To me, there was a definite difference in brand vs. generic

Same here! I. Fact all generic versions of sinemet have drastically caused adverse reactions. One of the most frequent side effects has been tremors; which has been my predominant symptoms from the time I was diagnosed 14 yrs ago. Throughout this time my tremors I get after taking c/l have gradually become more intense to the extent where they are full body and uncontrollable; seizure like. One may ask why am I still taking it if its causing tremors, dyskinesia ,dystonia, sleepless unrestful nights, and depression? Well, as much as I don't like to say this..in small windows throughout the day it makes my tremors, dystonia, dyskinesia subsise so well it makes me feel calm unlike any other😊 medicine I've been thrown by big p. And throughout these last 14 years I've realized my experiences and research Carbidopa/levadopa has been causing this vicious cycle for many many years without any attempts to fix it.

You'll have to excuse my ranting as this is my first reply on here and have 14 years of dealing with this devil drug. And would have great greatly appreciated someone like myself and the time of my diagnosis you share their experiences and opinions. So, in time I plan to share my experiences and opinions on here in hopes it will help others; even though some may look at it as a scare tactic; which is not the case at all.

Shake em and bake em! 😉
