"The most probable mechanism is 'through metabolic, inflammatory, and neuroendocrine pathways.' Mental, metabolic, and neurological health are interconnected. Chris Palmer, MD" jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...?
It's equally important to address mental health, along with physical illness. Depression isn't a personal failure. It is a physical illness with roots in metabolic disorders and part of the metabolic disease is mitochondrial dysfunction. It has been proven that depression is a result of chronic neuroinflammation.
"Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a vital role in the etiology of depression... and represents a potential target for pharmacological intervention of depression." sciencedirect.com/science/a...
You cannot heal the body until you heal the mind. This means addressing trauma - which is also a cause of chronic neuroinflammation.
Give Dr. Palmer a follow, he has much more information on the topic than I can share here.
