It's "all in the family."

The title of the posting is likely not very transparent or helpful, but it comes down to thi:

Several nueros I've encountered have made the claim if the source of your PD is mainly hereditary/family related your symptoms will develop more quickly and seriousuly, than a trigger such as environmental toxin exposure.

Is there anything out there that validates this viewpoint?

There are many forms of genetic Parkinson's as set forth here: sciencedirect.com/science/a...

Regarding Parkinson's due to mutations in the LRRK2 gene, according to this study: jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...

Progression in the LRRK2-Associated Parkinson Disease Population, progression is slower: " In this longitudinal study, the rate of change in Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale III motor score was less among patients with the LRRK2 mutation than among patients without the mutation"

My husband had REM sleep disorder at the age of 20. Maybe sooner, but I didn't know until we were on our honeymoon. (wham, my pillow was grabbed out from under me and my head slammed to the mattress!)That is a symptom very common in people who develop Parkinson's.

He didn't develop noticeable cognitive difficulties with his condition until he was around 72. He had very little tremor. He died at 80. So, he lived a heck of a long time with his disease.

I have this same exact story! Just met, first camping experience, he punches me in arm, my head raises, he grabs my pillow! WTH? Still with him 40 years later to find out this is called REM sleep disorder and will lead to Parkinsons.

How funny! We were married for 58 years. Once he woke me up, legs dancing around, kicking like crazy. I woke him up to ask him what he was doing and he said he had been running in his dream. Another time he woke me up slamming and hitting. I said to myself, "If I had a gun I would shoot him! " He never ever admitted he kicked in his sleep. He once told me, "I bet someone else could sleep with me." I knew no one would do it willingly but me, and that's because I didn't know about it before our honeymoon!🤣

I have not been able to find any valid support for this theory.

The speed of inset depends primarily on the causes and our underlying state of health and lifestyle.

SNCA duplication and triplication appear to offer fairly grim outlooks:

Other SNCA mutations variable results:

Surprising. I seem to understand it's just the opposite. And rigid dominant vs tremor dominant, with rigid dominant being more disabling. There are many variants and factors that contribute to progression.
