Good article. This is transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Looks promising.

Hi Michel,

This is very similar to another device from a company called Alpha Stim which I purchased for my wife about 4 months ago. Have a look at alpha-stim.com/ and perhaps compare the two.

This works for anxiety, depression and insomnia. It seems to be working for my wife and she uses it for 20 minutes a day. The Alpha Stim device is more practical as it clips on the earlobes without having to immerse the contact pads into water which makes it more user friendly.

This company has been developing this device for about 40 years, it has a contract with the US Defense Force for their soldiers that suffer from PTSD and the NHS in UK has also started using it.

Hi Rafiki. Thank you very much for sharing this information. I see that the device you mentioned also targets insomnia. As we all know, sleep issues and anxiety/depression are frequent non motor symptoms of Parkinson’s.

I personally use meditation to keep anxiety under control (I recognise that this may not be enough for everyone) and sublingual melatonin to support my sleep.

Technological solutions like the ones we both mentioned also have a role to play but some are quite expensive and it is hard to know if the investment is worth it.

Lets keep on sharing information as we do on this forum. Feedback from fellow PwPs is critical.

Yes Michel, I agree that we should be looking for non pharmaceutical devices as much as possible so as to avoid all those side effects. Some of these work extremely well as was the case with my wife's RLS (Restless leg syndrome) which we resolved with Restiffic pads, see restiffic.com/ Absolutely amazing results! If one tries them and they work, then after 21 days you can totally stop using them as the muscles in the legs and feet retain their memory. My wife's RLS has never come back.

On a different note, were you not going to interview Peter Tass next month?

Thank you very much, I will look into those pads. We are awaiting confirmation from P Tass.

I think one uses electric pulses and the other uses magnetic ones but they indeed seem to be parallel technologies.
