I do not understand how drinking buttered coffee with cream and MCT does not break the fast?

If the goal is ketosis, when you fast the body uses fat for energy because you aren't ingesting carbs. Ingesting fats--butter and MCTS--helps speed up the switch from carb-burning to fat-burning. But ketones themselves are an energy source. As ketosis deepens the ketones ultimately enter the Krebs cycle and are used, not expelled in urine. So you can't use urinalyses strips to monitor ketosis.

right, but my question is that consuming fats will break the fast even though one could still be in ketosis

. Consuming fats doesn't break the fast. It slows fat loss, that's all. There's evidence that ketosis helps the brain; Children with epilepsy get better when on a ketosis diet. The body has only two energy sources: fatty acids from fat and three-chain carbons from glucose. Personally, I found I could run further on fats than on carbs. But I couldn't run as fast. Glucose might be a colder fuel than fatty acids. By avoiding carbs I healed faster from 30 to 50 mile runs. Perhaps fatty acids are less inflammatory than carbs. Inflammation in the brain might be the reason for most brain disorders like PD.

The thing about Bill is that he had an immediate improvement via coconut oil. I used to watch his videos years ago and was very impressed. But when I ingested coconut oil, nothing ever happened 🤔🙁😂

Try MCT oil? I t's the part of coconut oil that helps you get into ketosis. Most of coconut oil is useless.

But to be honest, I would imagine even mct oil would be close to useless unless you also ate pretty low carb. (or maybe drank an entire bottle every day?)

I tried keto for a while but weight loss was a real problem. Ok if you have plenty to lose but I didn’t and had to add more carbs back in . Now low carb

I agree about the weight loss! I think it's especially hard if you eat keto AND fast. I switch it up--I just don't fast all the time, and on the days when I'm not fasting I snack all day long. Another trick for weight gain is milkshakes (or, for keto, cream shakes! :o). ANOTHER critical piece for weight gain is working out.

It sounds counter-intuitive (how often have we been told to exercise for weight loss?) but I'm talking especially about strength/stability training--if you are building muscle your body will get hungry. Of course, you should be doing that anyway...:o)

Keto diet, 2 meals a day. No fasting.

I am 61, was diagnosed 18 months ago and have improved so much by doing keto and intermittent fasting. My family are thrilled and I am determined to stick with it. Its tough initally but hunger disappears along with all the nasty symptoms of Parkinsons.

Also I had bloods tested after 6 months on this...Doctor said my results were as if I had been training for a maratthon!

Cholesterol down/bad one

Fatty liver gone

Pre diabetes gone!

I now have no worries re cardiovascular disease eating fat

Makes sense. I have just started intermittent fasting, and excercise. I was starting to eat around 4-4:30pm and last food at around 8-9. I eat lacto (salt fermented veggies daily which has really helped with constipation. Thanks for the excellent talk.

Wow! Congratulations and thank you for sharing your discovery with us all here.

Is taking something (e.g. BHB or MCT or other) which induces ketosis essential? If one has been fasting for many hours already, when they wake up, drink coffee and exercise, he/she will enter ketosis anyways without the added supplements. No?
