"Patients with Parkinson's disease achieved a significant improvement in their tremors, mobility, and other physical symptoms after having a minimally invasive procedure involving focused ultrasound, according to a new study today published in the New England Journal of Medicine."
Hello ! I just had MRI assisted FUS on the right side of brain 8/22/23.. I am tremor dominant and was diagnosed in 2015. symptoms before tremor both sides, insomnia, dyskinesia on left side couldn't walk a half mile with my left foot dragging a little which made me exhausted and excessively sweat after the walk. I was also a little unbalanced walking.
still taking meds for right side tremor but the results (still good) that i stated above was a HUGE PLUS on Quality of life. I am planning on having it done on the other side in May 2024.
I t was at NY Presbyterian.
The surgeon Dr. Gordon Baltuch was great. see his experience on this link below.
MY neuro doc was always telling me that i was a perfect candidate for DBS but the intensive surgery and maintenance was not something i wanted. My understanding is i could do DBS after ultrasound but basically caannot do ultrasound after DBS because of the wires inplanted from DBS.
If u are tremor dominant and meds are becoming less effective i would strongly encourage.
