I've had a similar experience with my vibration plate. But I've slacked off and don't use it every day. Now that you've brought it up, I'm going to be using it much more again!
Is this technology akin to the vibration gloves which were the subject of recently published research? If I recall correctly, the idea from that study was that vibrations on the hand rewire the brains motor skills. Perhaps vibrations on the feet produce a similar result when using a vibration plate. Who knows?
I understand the glove study was prompted by patients that traveled greater distances by horse or bumpy vehicles (100 years ago) to their doctors enjoyed better checkups than did town dwelling patients.
On that note, I ordered the vibration plate to create my own bumpy journey. Very happy I did! It seems to alleviate some stiffness as well.
The cornerstone of vibration training was the observation that Parkinson's patients used to be able to move better after a train ride (which was much more uncomfortable than today). It was found that the irregular jerking and rocking movements trained both the muscles themselves and the interaction between muscles and brain.
Special vibration devices are now on the market. The patient stands on a platform (e.g., Galileo, Body Cult, Power Plate) that generates irregular movement patterns similar to those on a train ride and can thus alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Vibration training is offered by specialized physical therapy and medical practices and Parkinson's clinics. There are also devices for home use. However, if you have a medical history, you should never exercise without consulting your primary care physician.

Improvement of balance and coordination
Stimulation of metabolic activity and release of important messenger substances
Due to the high number of repetitions during the training of a vibration plate, a lasting effect on the neuromuscular system is achieved. The muscle contractions provoked by the side-alternating training run on the one hand without nervous activity in the muscle itself, on the other hand reflexively on the spinal cord level.
I was on safari in Africa for a few days in late summer and after I came home and took my weekly measurements, I noticed that my "speed measurements" on my left hand had values that had never been so good. At first I thought it was a nutritional supplement I was taking during that time. But the values got worse again. Only a few weeks ago I read an article, from which it emerged that one determined already some decades ago, that the shaking of old trains improved the Parkinson's symptoms!
There are some reports on the Internet about it!
I have now ordered a "vibration plate" VP5000 from Sportstech. This I have ordered and you will try after my Thailand vacation in early March - let's see if it works!
my concern is that this could cause weight loss - my husband has had a problem keeping on weight but recently he has been able to gain some weight and I would not want him to lose the weight he has gained
That seems like a good question for his doctor. I am only two weeks into my new routine but haven't experienced any new weight loss. I am feeling a bit stronger though. I use a counter top or strudy barstool to grasp if I need a little extra stability during the routine.
honestly our doctor and other medical providers (acupuncture. chiropractor) are quite amazed that he has gained weight because he could not gain weight for over 2 years and actually lost some weight - everyone is amazed and I do not know if anyone has any familiarity with vibration therapy - well probably Dr. Peter Tass does but I don't think I will be able to talk to him anytime soon : ) So maybe it encourages a healthy weight (that might be the key) since some users might benefit from a little weight loss.
I think taking digestive enzymes and having acupuncture have been the main things that have helped. Probiotics may also have helped. He has been seeing a functional neurologist who has given him several exercises to do. She is also a chiropractor and an acupuncture practitioner and has used these treatments as well.
Has you husband continued gain weight? I think I'm going to give Flore a try. I like that they custom tailor it based on your microflora Test results. Also, where were you able to find a functional neurologist that's also a chiropractor and acupuncturist? She sounds amazing.
I use it every day. I experienced immediate relief the first day.
I use it at 7- 8am and that seems to last till early afternoon or so. Just before bed I'll jiggle another 10 minutes and my legs don't squirm and tremor so bad getting to sleep.
I've routinely walked my dogs daily but was struggling with strength and once again foot drag. The vibration session before my morning walk seems to have mostly resolved those issues for me.
I've been using the preset programs - they are 10 minutes each. I do 10 or 20 minutes every morning. I like to jiggle first then head out for my morning dog walks.
I have used one and think they are good for balance and gait. Tremors too for all I know. The basic benefit it seems to me is that it appears to help the brain to deal with unusual or unnatural movement and to compensate. Just a layman’s view. My PT instructor has made the bosu ball (in most gym equipment stores) part of my training as that makes you fight for balance standing and exercising on a flexible inflated ball. Only for those whose muscular strength allows you to stand on it in the first place as there is a fall risk. Similar concept to the plate but subject to that risk.
good for you! i've owned one for over 10 years and my vibration plate machine has SAVED ME from excruciating leg pain cramps several times! (hint) I also use it for 'constipation' (it SHAKES ME for a couple of minutes and GO! GO! GO!)
Before you spend your money, consider the state of the evidence from controlled clinical trials. It's pretty weak. If you spent that time exercising, you'd probably get more benefit. One recent review concludes " The effects of WBV on human PD patients remains inconclusive. " mdpi.com/2079-7737/11/8/1238 Powerful placebo effects are undoubtedly at play.
Take a look at the table in the manuscript. Results are all over the place. Good if you are a mouse who has artificially induced PD. mdpi.com/2079-7737/11/8/1238
If you cannot exercise, it might have a small benefit. I will save my money and keep runnning.
My tremors worsen in off times. But are present somewhat when on too. I don't have rolling tremors, just shakers. Left side is my greater struggle. If I'm really upset they can become relentless and affect both sides.
I only have my personal experience to draw from. My tremors are left side dominant including the hand but somewhat more pronounced in my legs.I am experiencing significant tremor relief along with some reduction of stiffness.
When it wears off I step up for another 10 minute jiggle then off I go! 😃
If this is a placebo effect, let it roll, I raked up the storm debris in my yard yesterday!
Thank you so much for this information! I just ordered one for my husband with the link you provided. I'm optimistic it will work well for him as it did you! It's certainly worth a try. Thanks again.
My experience continues to be very beneficial. With daily use my tremors are incredibly lessened. I use the plate "as needed" and enjoy many more comfortable hours in my day.
There seems a wide range of opinions on vibration therapy, but I felt it was worth a shot if it helped at all. I simply chose a random Amazon item:
AXV Vibration Plate Exercise Machine
a.co/d/gldw1Z2
I bought it on Amazon for $117. The unit has a 330lb weight limit.
I look forward to my days since finding this because I'm actually getting things done!
I do both. At first I was a little weak and sitting was best, but I mostly stand now. I like to do some knee bends and small hip rotations to loosen things up.
This is what I purchased 2 years ago. It works! Minimal tremors, no cramps, no pain anywhere. Hubby uses it in the morning for 10-20 min and another 10-20 in the evening.
Thanks Alpaca.....seems like a worthwhile investment as my tremors sound similar to yours and mornings for me are the hardest to turn ON and get moving.
