I'll try to dig for more info. It's only a 30 second news report -- but still -- GREAT NEWS!

----------------------------

I found MORE info! But WHY haven't we HEARD more about this???

This is a June, 2020 article = 2 1/2 YEARS go... so what's up with THAT???

"A novel breakthrough treatment for Parkinson’s disease has been discovered by a Korean American scientist, Kim Kwang-soo. Professor Kim and his team have successfully found a way to treat Parkinson’s disease, which has been known to be incurable, by reprogramming a patient’s own cells."

businesskorea.co.kr/news/ar...

"The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on June 2 (2020) the results of the historic stem cell treatment developed by Kim, professor at Harvard Medical School and director of Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory at McLean Hospital and his team."

People have been cured with stem cells 20 years ago.

well i know that 'stem cells' are not new... but i haven't heard of 'cure' connected with them... just 'exploratory' ... it's not like DBS or HIFU which medicare pays for... you can't get insurance to pay for 'stem cell treatment' (as far as I know) for PD

I get what you are saying.

I was talking about this

Here is the bigger picture, other trials, and the history of stem cells used to target PD:

the last paragraphs seems to be the most relevant:

---------------------

"Although stem-cell therapy might fall short of curing Parkinson’s disease, its advocates are nonetheless enthusiastic about its promise. “I’m obviously biased, but I am very optimistic about the potential,” says Tabar.

"She says that using stem cells in combination with levodopa, DBS or potential new immunological therapies could help to slow or even stop the disease. There’s going to be a very exciting road ahead.”

In Europe - Sweden is doing something too!

"The STEM-PD product is safe and highly effective in reversing motor deficits in preclinical models of Parkinson's disease," said Agnete Kirkeby, PhD, associate professor at Lund University - Sweden.

Since research is being done worldwide, I expect that in a few years it will be possible to have serious surgery.

However, I do not want to be the first! :-)

I'm going to make this a separate post, but here's the story. What frustrates the hell out of me is that this took place years ago. Why is the pace of trials sooooo slooooow.youtu.be/cN2ZgSStm7I

Another great post, gaga1958! ... May 2020 was the article so we're approaching '3' years since the trial surgery.... '3' companies invented a covid vax in 9 months with unlimited federal money... The problem is... even though PD is the 14th leading cause of death in the USA.... not enough of us are dying to get that kind of funding. Very sad, but true.
