Look up Terazosin here. Appears to be better than Tamulosin. Big study on PD and those two drugs published April last year.

When I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, my MD recommended taking saw palmetto and pygeum. Since taking it I have not had any further issues. I take the Now brand combo.

Doctor knows best (sometimes) every case is different.

Keep your eye out for side effects, one med caused dizziness and the other short term memory loss.

But hubby’s former MDS at Stanford recommended terazosin also for the positive PD studies. He hasn’t tried it yet.

hubby started on tamsulosin but it made him constipated quickly then very anxious.

My husband has the same problem, and was due an appointment with a urologist. However 2 months ago he started to take clean saw palmetto,a supplement traditionally known for treating bladder and prostate problems. His last blood test showed significant improvement,so the urology appointment has been put on hold.He hasn’t been taking anything else for the problem,so I feel it must be the supplement .We got ours from British Supplements, they are based in Ireland.

My HWP was given Tamulosin when first dx but changed to Terrozozin after reading about the possible advantages for PWP. Doesn’t seem to have side effects from the drug.

my husband was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate ten years ago and has kept his PSA blood test stable by taking Good Health Naturally’s “Prostate Plus”. X 6 a day. He has avoided radiotherapy, hormone tablets etc that all his friends have been through. It must be Good Health Naturally’s prostate plus. Not anyone else’s similarly named version. Gosh I sound like an advert!

Saw palmetto (lots of named versions around) works for many. Dramatic effect on improving urinary urgency, longer retention, etc etc but make sure enlargement is the only issue. Rule out cancer first.

cancer already ruled out MRI scan At hospital

I had Rezum treatment (steam ablation) a couple of years ago to reduce an enlarged prostate. Brilliant result. All very undignified at the time….bag for 2 weeks. Significant bleeding for 2-3 weeks afterwards is alarming but a normal part of the process. No side effects, great result. I have no financial or other interests etc etc.

Good luck & best wishes.

There is a difference between an enlarged prostate blocking the urinary stream and a smaller prostate which still blocks the urinary stream. The large prostate does it by bulk, the smaller prostate does it because the muscles around the bladder neck are too tight. If it's a large prostate then shrinking the gland may work, eg. finasteride. If it's a smaller prostate with symptoms, relaxing the bladder neck muscles may work. eg. tamsulosin. Terazosin is similar but has more side effects, particularly lowering blood pressure. Try everything before resorting to a surgical procedure. Also, he should have a PSA test to make sure this isn't prostate cancer. Lot of information....sorry 'bout that.
