Brain training apps

Hello everyone,

I have been using (and recommend) the following two brain training apps: Elevate and Peak.

I am looking for a change and was wondering if anyone has other apps to suggest ?

My husband uses Brain HQ too, hasn’t subscribed but uses it daily. New York Times Wordle, spelling bee, and others they suggest.

I was recommended to use the pay for section of lumosity specifically too but I didn't yet.

I have to say that restarting to do things related to my professional training and experience have had to my opinion a massive impact, and so did persisting in my efforts to remember what I forgot, focusing on complex discussions in the news (various documentaries, debates, politics, economy...) was helpful in restoring abstract thinking and restoring/ maintaining large-size vocabulary. But then of course there needs to be such complex discussions! Hence I also sometimes follow on TV or radio Q&A games even if I don't know the answers, it challenges me to think fast and quickly again, making the stretch consciously hear/read the ehole question, make sure i also represented to myself the meaning of the question, and in real-time same with theanswer.

In a way, I think that being in the moment i.e. mindfulness, but this time in the cognitive moment, is a great training.

I have been told to play bridge.

For sure one remaining challenge for me is dual-tasking, but from time to time I see an opportunity to do it in real-life, that isn't dangerous (like talking on the phone whilst driving). I remember I have seen a paper reporting that physical (intense) training combined with a auditive exercise (ie listening to music) and visual exercise would lead to the secretion of growth factors AND new cells. Unfortunately I didn't keep the paper but the key lesson for me, in that work was to combine to physical exercises other activities (and as many/complex as possible) . I hope it helps.

PS: I came to the conclusion that I should re-take the courses from high-school or uni and if I scored that would be it.

Another and last thought is that Apps are great to sharpen very specific skills but confrontation in real time with real-life situations and environment is the real thing

All my personal opinion based on my own limited experience

Hi enjoy Thank you very much for this. I totally agree with you that Apps help sharpen specific skills but that real-life situations are even more helpful. I view Apps as a useful addition to real life mental exercises.

Amen Clinics has a great brain app. It’s a monthly fee, but it charts your progress.
