so last week I had a HUGE flare up of diverticulitis (its seems to be a family curse) Thursday I had a bit of pain, didn't think anything about it. Friday it got so bad that on my way home I stopped by the walk in clinic and the PA thought I possibly had a severe groin strain or very mild hernia because of its location. ( not much usual spot for flare ups). So he prescribed some pain pills and a muscle relaxer and ice, also said if it gets worse get to the ER. Saturday morning 3am the pain was so bad I called pusscake and my wife took me to the ER. I took my PD meds with me for just in case. Got to the ER and luckily with in 45 minutes they diagnosed me. I was admitted and was sure to inform everyone that I had PD and had to have my meds on a schedule. Also gave them my neurologist contact info. At first they didn't want me to take them because of my intestinal issues and I told them I have to have them and that they really didn't want to go there. So they then asked what I was taking and I told them. The pharmacy here doesn't have it, so I said then I will be responsible for my own meds for that. Well what do you know. They actually listened.... the nurses have to dispense the meds to me that I provide but I am getting them and on my schedule. It was a bit of a struggle but once everyon understoodit worked out. Hopefully I will get released today. Moral of the story is you have to be your own advocate. Be stern and polite and to the point. If you receive any problems get your neurologist online and on board as quick as possible. It was a learning experience and it came out well for me.i have read several negative experiences and had made mental notes for just in case. . If you know your going to the ER take some of your meds in the original container and a few on the side as a back up. Let them know you have PD and are on a schedule,if they don't seem to be wanting to work with you, call your neurologist asap and inform them. Make sure all your meds are charted correctly as well and what type your taking. Don't let them dictate your meds or schedule . Stay strong peeps!
