Hi. I’ve had YOPD for about 4 years; diagnosed at 44. Does anyone know if it’s ok to do protein shakes after exercising or working out? If so, is whey protein alright? Not sure if it’s been helping me maintain muscle or not. I lost alot of weight in the past few years. Any advice?

YOPD and post-exercise supplements question
Your body will tell you the answer. Is it satisfying? Does it "hit the spot"?
There is nothing we can eat or drink that has any positive effect on the progression of Pd. The only action that has been proven by the recent Mayo Clinic report on their scientific study carried out on Pd, which showed that high Energy Aerovic Exercise produces GDNF in the brain , which repairs the damaged Glial cells and the brian can then produce more dopamine and the symptoms get better. I have been doing fast walking since 1994 and have had Pd sumptoms since 1963. Because I ahve been doing fast walking and other aerobic exercises since before 1963, I have been able to keep the symptoms under control and have lived a normal, life. I am now 87.
Out of interest as I like walking, am regularly at the weekend doing 7 plus miles, I want to include some brisk high energy walks during the week before or after work, how far and for how long and what pace are your fast walks ?
If you are serious about reversing your Pd, it is vital that you follow the rules.1. Always walk AS FAST AS YOU CAN
2. Start uup for a time you can maintain top speed, then stick to that time, EVERYU SECOND DAY FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKSA
3, Only increase the time by a maximum of 5 minutes, every second week
4. Don't walk more than ONE HOUR!
SPEED IS THE VITAL PART AND OVERDOING IT DOES NOT HELP
Good Luck!
Yes whey protein is fine, though you might distance it from any CL consumption
Creatine is another option for muscle mass
You can do the same as you previously have done. Although I find personally that a plant based protein supplement is typically a more bio-available option Meaning it may break down quicker in the gut, where as its commonly understood that animal based protein may take longer to break down which means if your relying on that next l/dopa hit from your sinamet it will take longer to feel the effects and shorter duration of the 'hit'. You can take creatine buy it can't be solely relied on , to get the same results as talking you'd protein supplements. This area is highly individualised so it may take some research and like someone said above 'listening to your body'.If it's worth anything pound for pound chicken takes quite a bit longer to break down I find personally in my own body, where as lamb is quite quick and beef is generally broken down enough within the 2-3 hour mark after consuming and I can take my pills and they generally become active within that 45 -60 mins mark.
Hope that assists mate
I drink a blender bottle of orgain plant protein powder after working out. I dropped a lot of weight after being diagnosed, but I've kept a steady weight for the past five years now. You can get good deals ordering directly from them on their website.
I can't see any reason why it would be bad to do this,, just as long as u don't take protein drinks close to the next Levodopa pill...
Here's the problem as I see it; One of the PD signs is gastroparesis, meaning slow movement of food through the gut. If I take a protein supplement how do I know whether it will interfere with absorption of Ldopa in the gut? My answer is to take the meds first thing in the morning but not to eat anything til afternoon. Then wait a few more hours before taking the second pill. And again for the third. Which has me taking the third dose well after midnight. The only "off period" I seem to have is double vision that tells me the meds are no longer working,. The double vision starts around 5-6 hours after the last medication was taken.
