Adventures in anal probing...

I saw a new doc today for gastroparesis. She said my diet is the worst and a big cause of my gastric problems. I need to swallow a "Smart Pill" which will travel through my guts recording things and I need an anal probe which will measure the muscle contractions of my colon and rectum. We had to buy foods that I normally never eat: Quick Oatmeal, grits. I have to get rid of high-fiber foods because for people with PD they can lead to a Bezoar. Basically a food concretion. We bought low-fiber breads and cookies. And macaroni salad. And potato soups. She gave me several pages of smoothie recipes.

20 years ago a horse kicked me in my head fracturing my jaw. Too many fragments for surgical repair so my jaw was wired shut for 3 months and I lived on liquids. My wife got very good at liquifying foods. It seems we're back to doing that.

Gastroparesis is a condition that affects the normal spontaneous movement of the muscles (motility) in your stomach. Ordinarily, strong muscular contractions propel food through your digestive tract.

Symptoms: Vomiting; Nausea
