2 clips of Chris walking from his wood shed, both without medication, about 18 months apart. Hopefully the link works 🤔. Enjoy!

Sorry y’all. I should have provided some context. These are two clips of Chris Lacey who I discussed in my post Inspiring Stuff. He rid himself of the symptoms of PD by focusing intensely on making chess pieces, six hours daily until after a couple of years he no longer needed meds. One clip shows him in his diseased state unmedicated and the other clip is similarly unmediated but shows the difference after applying himself to his endeavour. Obviously a changed man.

Thanks for sharing. Very inspiring. I am surprised that it didn't make newspapers headlines

Well this was posted 7 hours ago and has had one commentator (you!), so seemingly it’s of little interest to the community or they’re sceptical about the claim. ☹️🤔

Jeeves, always happy to see a post from you. It's hard to translate what he has done into my life. I can't think of anything similar that I would have enough interest in or accessibility to work at for 6 hours a day or even one.

The other thing that came to mind is how different we all are and perhaps he has found the key to his version of the PD prison.

Still, I will keep mulling it over. I will keep looking for my key.

I believe it. But surprised at the lack of interest by the PWP. His protocol for recovery should be trialed on mass level by the organisation like MJ Fox foundation

Hi Jeeves –

Your posting on this subject has been really important and a game changer for me - demonstrating the efficacy of constantly challenging our motor impairments to engage neuroplasticity. I have always exercised, but now I am more deliberate about frequently moving about and making my body do that which is difficult for me.

This made the news. I read about it a year ago. Seems to have dropped off the media radar (maybe because Chris went back to living his life without PD).

Amazing that he achieved effectively a cure for his PD, with his mindset and skills and determination. Thanks for posting this!

jeeves19 profile image
jeeves19

He’s an exceptional person and frankly most of us don’t have what it takes to achieve this. I think his grandfather was Australias Prime Minister. Maybe Chris inherited this drive and determination?

kevowpd profile image
kevowpd in reply to jeeves19

Are you suggesting that all one needs to rid themselves of their PD symptoms (indefinitely, seemingly) is 'drive and determination', and that therefore anyone incapable of replicating this outcome simply isnt driven or determined enough?

I love his story. Did he also included exercise each day, meditate, control his diet? I believe the intensity of his six hours of work each day was primary, but wonder about other factors helping, too. Just curious.

jeeves19 profile image
jeeves19 in reply to GrandmaBug

I don’t remember him doing much else. I think he often claimed that he felt better when he avoided dairy and bread but it wasn’t a central plank in his recovery. Just gradual longtime focusing on a new hobby.

Hi Jeeves19, firstly I want to thank you for the information you shared with us. I read with interest your previous post and have been thinking about what activities could have that same effect on me. I have even tried to find ideas in the internet but can't find anything. Any ideas? Like maybe painting by numbers? It would require concentration if the areas to paint are small...I am dying to try this neuroplasticity theory!!Thanks again. All the best

jeeves19 profile image
jeeves19 in reply to Giovi1960

It has to be something that you haven’t done before, has a physical dimension and something you can tolerate - even enjoy - for long periods of time. You could do a variety of things. So you could meditate for a certain part of the day, then spend an hour on a new instrument, do some colouring in for another. The wood is very absorbing however and I find I can spend ages on it before I realise the time. But when I play the piano, I’m more conscious of time. The ideal is that you lose yourself in it? So wood carving send you be the best for me.

Giovi1960 profile image
Giovi1960 in reply to jeeves19

Thanks Jeeves. My spouse does some woodwork from time to time so I might ask him to teach me how to use the tools and see how it goes :)Take care and thanks again.

I’ve done a few pottery classes in the last year, using the wheel. It’s incredibly soothing and you forget you even have PD as you wrestle with a lump of clay with a mind of its own.As a bonus you end up with a few small crooked bowls suitable for serving olives!!

kevowpd profile image

Good call. Distraction is probably the best treatment around.

I think I am missing a couple of crooked bowls in my collection. That for sure I can make hahahaha. Seriously, thanks Astra, that's a great idea! All the best

Your a champion for reaching out to Chris and posting this mate, it proves what most are told and firmly believe that PD is unbeatable, I'm actually starting to learn leather work myself, just having bought a sewing machine and the like.

Let's beat this damn PD business back into submission!!

jeeves19 profile image

Nice one Aaron. Hopefully your leather work won’t materialise into some risqué outfit mate 😂
