I recommend seeking out The Wahls Protocol And Dr. Dale Bredesens protocol.
The first is for autoimmune diseases. The second is for ALZ.
And the MJFF has a nutrition guide that is not as in depth or strict.
You might find this book usefulamazon.co.uk/Parkinsons-Dis...
I can tolerate some dairy but a lot of dairy aggravates my symptoms.
Only meat ,vegetables and limited fruit here, and eggs. No grains, dairy, sugar, rice occasionally (however it's a grain and converts to basically Sugar once it hits your large intestine, so it's very occasionally.
With so many things being good for treating both PD and Diabetic, It a fair bet if bad for one its bad for the other.
Agree--SUGAR.
I personally eat as low carb as I possibly can. The whole dairy thing (at this point) is only correlative, and tends to associate with lower fat. So it could be anything--lactose, pesticides in the milk, allergies, who knows? There's no association with butter or full fat yogurt (yet) for example.
The weird thing is, so many PWP seem to crave sweets. Why?
Amy, are you completely grain free? What is your opinion on seeds and nuts? I was very keto focused but I reintroduced some seeds, nuts.
I think I should go back to true keto for another round.
I'm pretty much grain-free but that's only because of the carbs. King Arthur makes a keto flour that contains gluten, and I use that in moderation...so I have no particular quibble with grains except the carb count.
Likewise with nuts--I eat the high-fat ones, macadamias, pecans, chia, hemp etc...
My goal is to keep my carb count under 30 every day, and if I can stay at 20 I'm even happier. But if within that I tasted something with sugar and/or flour in it (rare) I wouldn't worry.
BTW, that brings up an interesting thought: I always wonder, is ketosis a matter of absolute carbohydrates or percentage of them? If you eat too many carbs could you just up your fat and be ok?
Another thing: I itake mct oil and intermittent fast every day which are both little cheats for upping ketosis too. So, for example, if my only meals are coffee at noon and then nothing except dinner, I might have a few too many berries for dessert. ;o)
Keeping carbs under 30 is impressive. I strayed away from keto and added “healthy” fruits, more nuts, seeds, and a little bit of grains. I felt considerably better on keto and I am going to resume it.
On keto, do you eat anything in particular for prebiotic fiber / resistant starch? I’m thinking of adding green banana powder.
I intend on using a continuous glucose monitor again.
Do you? Or do you have a means of checking ketones?
I should find a keto group so I won’t ask you so many questions. ☺️
Sorry, that crossed in the mail! So you see yes, I used a meter. I WANT a CGM but my insurance wouldnt pay and I am a cheapskate.
I like questions...the only problem is that I am pretty much making up the answers.
Oh...I wondered about the resistant starch thing too. I actually bought a box of green banana flour but then read the carb count and got cold feet. I eat PLENTY of fiber...chia and flax and vegetables. But I don't know.
Oh, also, you could consider getting yourself a ketone meter. I got a breath one, and though it broke about a year ago, it was pretty helpful, letting me know what I could get away with and what I couldn't.
I had a ketone meter that died too. I got my PCP to prescribe a continuous glucose monitor. I pleaded and groveled for it. ☺️ I intermittent fast daily too.
And long fast according to my hormone cycle. I’m concerned about lowering progesterone.

Hi JustJeff,
I'm about to say a bad one.
I make no effort to follow the Puglia Italy Mediterranean diet. Unfortunately it is not a diet to be followed in "theory", but it requires on-site practical training to understand what it is. Sometimes the difference is abysmal !
